Collecting and displaying cultural artefacts of the Southland region, the Southland Museum and Art Gallery exhibits international, national, and regional items. The museum's collections include a Maori Gallery, a social history gallery, and collections from New Zealand and the subantartic. The museum also has a live tuatara in the tuatarium as part of a breeding program.
